Simpson Edge and his wife, Evaline S. Penn Edge were pioneer settlers in this part of Ga. Simpson was born in Wilkes Co. in 1805, the son of Obediah Edge and his wife, a Miss Aley [sic]. He was the Grandson of Nehemiah and Sarah Stephens Edge who moved to Baldwin Co. from N.C. soon after the Rev. War. Evaline Penn was born in Oglethorpe Co., Ga. around 1810. This couple married June 25,1831 or 1833. Evaline is the daughter of Moses Penn and Pernia "Penny" White Bird Penn. Their families lived in Monroe Co. Children of this marriage were: 1. Parmelia Petrona Edge b. 10-14-1844, d. 3-27-1909, m. Joel Wenil English. 7. Warren Lee Edge b. 1-15-1846, d. 2-14-1916 in Bryan Tex. m Miss Jane Cloud in 1866. 8. Cecelia E. Edge b. 12-20-1846, d. 7-27-1914 m. Wm. Winfrey "Tip" Childers on 11-15-1866. 9. John Simpson Edge, M.D., b. 1852 m. Ella Hudson in 1873 in Schley Co., Ga d. Bryan, Tex. The U.S. Census, Ga., 1850 showed the Simpson Edge family living in Macon Co., the 740th district. Simpson Edge died Nov 6, 1854. His will was probated in Sumter Co. Evaline Penn Edge died Nov 2, 1858. Her will was probated in Schley Co. Their family farm was in the southeastern part of Schley Co. It was bought from the family by Wm and Cecelia Childers. It became known as "The Childers Place." Their sons, Wm Henry and Warren Lee served in the Confederate Army. Wm Henry served in the 11th Bn Sumter Flying Artillery under Maj. Allen S. Cutts along with his brother-in-law, Wm. W. English. In the 1870's the three Edge sins and their families moved to the Bryan Tex. area. They established a large family in Texas. These Texas families maintained contact with their Ga. families with many family members visiting in Ga through the years. One young couple visited in Ellaville [Ga] in the 1960's. Among descendents of Simpson and Evaline now living in the area are: Heywood Johnson, Ellaville; Miss Josephine Esterlin and Geo.
