Have just visited your Edge Family sight and thought I would leave a little information on some of the Edge men in the Civil War. I am writing a hisory of the 10th Georgia Battalion and can tell you the three Edge men in Co. A of this battalion were brothers. Arnuldus Blanton Edge, Daniel M. Edge & William Obediah Edge were the sons of Marlin Edge & Mary Stewart of Macon County, Ga. More information on them can be found in the Macon County, Ga. Query forum under "Marlin Edge family in Macon County, Ga." Arnuldus (d. after 1892) and Daniel are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Macon County and William died at home 10/28/64.
If there is anyone who has any Civil War information on these men I could use in my history, I would appreciate hearing from them. I am not related and only know of them from research. Dennis B. Miller.
In the Georgia Artillery units is William H. Edge. This is William Henry Harrison Edge, son of Simpson Edge and Eveline Penn. I think you have the following information: W.H.H. (Henry) Enlisted in 11th Georgia Artillery Battalion (Sumter Flying Artillery) at Americus, Ga, on July 6, 1861. He served under Major Allen S. Cutts along with his brother-in-law Wm. W. English, who died of disease in camp near Manassas Junction, Va. on 30 Sept. 1861. Henry was wounded at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, and surrendered at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.
He was not the substitute for W. L. Edge, his younger brother Warren Lee, who was 15 years old when W.H.H. enlisted. After the war, Henry served as Justice of the Peace and Notary Public in Georgia before moving to Texas in 1876 or 1877.
Warren Lee Edge enlisted as a private when he was 18 years old in Company F., 3rd Georgia Reserves, CSA, on April 21, 1864, became orderly sergeant, and surrendered with Johnston's army at the end of the war. Lee married Jane Harriet Cloud in 1866 and moved to Texas and was soon followed by W.H.H. and his family and several other relatives. They settled in the community of Edge in Brazos County, Texas, and many descendants are still in the county.
Henry's and Lee's younger brother John Simpson was too young to serve, being only 13 when the war ended. He also moved to Brazos county, Texas.
The Warren Edge listed in the Athens Reserved Corps was an older, family man living in Athens, Georgia, who was in the home guard "composed of men incapable of more active duty". He took an oath of allegiance and apparently enlisted in the Athens Reserve in Clark County on Sep. 19, 1863. He is carried in the 1850 census of Clark County as 34 years old, wife Sarah 32, and 5 children. His occupation is given as a carpenter and birthplace as SC. To my knowledge he is not any relation to the Simpson Edge family.
Warren Lee Edge is my great grandfather. Best regards, George Edwards Moore
George backs this up with military records and other research as well as oral family history.
