Facts Page
This page will contain miscellaneous items garnered by various researchers on their Edge lines. Nothing will be posted here without suitable source information. If you have items you wish to include, please send them to me and I will get them posted as soon as I can. We would like documents of any type, photos, etc. They may be transcribed or scanned. You may send hardcopy as well. E-mail me with the subject line: "Facts Page" so that I will know it is safe to open it. Hardcopy, which I can scan and include, may be mailed to Mary Ellen Wexler; 5798 Merlau Road; South Wales, NY 14139

Also, if you wish to have your name associated with the bits of info you send, so you may be contacted further, please let me know.
You will wish to be very careful in assuming that 2 entries apply to the same "John" for example, just because they are adjacent. I have not the time to group these entries by family, time or space. They will be completely randomly placed.  Perhaps someday we will have time to arrange them, or some kind soul will take on that task.

Please use your brower's search mechanism or the search engine attached to this website to find items on a specific name.

An ACT for the benefit of John Ross, of Baltimore county.
Passed December 25.
WHEREAS John Ross, of Baltimore county, hath represented to this general assembly, that a certain James Edge, late of Talbot county, deceased, by his last will, bearing date in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty-one, devised to his wife, Hannah Edge, and his heirs for ever, all the real estate which he might die seized or possessed of; that the same James Edge had conveyed to him, some time in the year seventeen hundred and fifty-two, by a certain William Skinner, a tract of land called Part of Benson's Enlargement, containing one hundred and eighty-eight acres, more or less, situate and lying in Talbot county; that the said James Edge departed this life some time in the year seventeen hundred and fifty-seven, without heirs; that the said Hannah Edge became possessed of the said tract of land under the will aforesaid, on the death of her husband, and died in the possession thereof some time in the year seventeen hundred and fifty-nine, leaving a certain Edward Oldham her heir at law, who became possessed thereof, and continued his possession until his death; that the said Edward Oldham, by his last will, bearing date on the tenth day of January, seventeen hundred and sixty-four, devised the said tract of land to the petitioner; that doubts having arisen whether the said tract of land became escheat on the death of the said James Edge, the petitioner hath applied for and obtained an escheat warrant for the same, and therefore prayed that the state might relinquish all right and title to the said tract of land; and this general assembly thinking the prayer of the said John Ross to be reasonable and just, have consented to grant the same; Right vested in J. Ross, &c.

II.  Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said John Ross be and is hereby vested with all the right and title which the state of Maryland hath, or might lawfully claim, to the said tract of land called Part of Benson's Enlargement, and the right and title of the said John Ross thereto is  hereby confirmed; saving nevertheless to all person and persons whatsoever, and bodies politic and corporate, not herein named, their several and respective rights.

SKETCHES OF HOLSTON PREACHERS
http://www.sevierlibrary.org/genealogy/ministers/meth.htm

The records of the lives of the preachers of Holston Conference constitute an important part of the history of Holston Methodism.  Those who read Methodist history, dwell lovingly upon the stories of the preachers who have consecrated their lives to seeking and shepherding the Church of God.
In preparing these short sketches, the effort has been made to perpetuate the memory of all of the men who have given their lives to the itinerant work in Holston Conference.  In one hundred and sixty years they have multiplied to nearly seven hundred.
The Minutes of the Conference have preserved the memoirs of the preachers from the beginning until the present time.  From these memoirs and from such other sources as have been available, these sketches have been prepared.  It is deeply regretted that it has been necessary to omit mention of the charges served by each one of the preachers; and of the names of other members of the family beside the wife.  Wherever possible to secure information the wife of each married preacher has been included in the sketch of her husband.
Memoirs of the wives of preachers began to be published in the Southern Conference in 1892.  A memoir of Mrs. R. G. Waterhouse was read in the memorial service in 1891, but was not published in the Annual.  The first of such memoirs was that of Mrs. Timothy Sullins, who before her marriage was Miss Mary W. Rogers of Knoxville.
Many of these sketches are very brief owing to lack of information concerning details.  These are the men who shall forever live in the memories of the Methodists of Holston Conference.

1783 - 1943
Edge, Benjamin:  Admitted 1804.  In Holston two years, 1817, 1819.  Died 1836, Norfolk, Va.

Biographies of Meriwether County, Ga. citizens
from Memoirs of Georgia, Vol. II, Atlanta, Ga.,
Published by The Southern Historical Association in 1895
William R. Edge
page 507

William R. Edge, a prosperous citizen of this county, has passed through many vicissitudes in the years of his life. He is the son of Joseph and Margaret (Flint) Edge, the former born in Wilkes county in 1803, and died in Meriwether county in 1886; his father, Nehemiah Edge, a South Carolinian, was one of the earliest settlers of Wilkes county. Here in 1826 William R. was born and where he passed his boyhood, obtaining such education as he was able to do in his country home. Later he began working for himself at the rate of seven dollars per month, at which rate he worked for three years; then he was overseer for a time, after which he went into the milling business. He fell a victim to the "gold fever", and spent some time in California in search of that much-sought mineral. He served also through the war, enlisting in 1862 in Company B, First Georgia cavalry, under Capt. J.W. Trammell; he was in the battle at Philadelphia and was in all the engagements during the memorable "march to the sea," being in those forces before Sherman all the way. Since the war he has been engaged in several different kinds of business, but has been especially successful in farming, as his large and beautiful and well-kept plantation on the Flint river bears witness. Mr. Edge married in 1855 his wife, Miss Catherine Boyd, being the daughter of Milton and Jane (Douglass) Boyd, of South Carolina, who came to Georgia in 1830. One daughter, Emma C., was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edge; she is now the wife of W.P. Lovelace. Mrs. Edge died in 1875 and in 1877 Mr. Edge married Mrs. Amanda (Miller) Knowles, a daughter of Jacob and Mary (Lovelace) Miller, of Wilkes county. Mrs. Edge is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church; her husband is a member of the Masonic fraternity.

CHAPTER LXXV.
LITTLE CREEK HUNDRED.
THIS hundred, situated in the southeastern part of the State, is bounded on the east by Gumboro’ Hundred and West by the State of Maryland. Before the establishment of the State lines all of the territory embraced in this hundred formed a part of Somerset County, Md. The excellent facilities for manufacturing afforded by the streams in this vicinity were an incentive to the early erection of numerous mills, some of which are still in operation. The surface is level and unbroken by any elevations of any considerable height. The soil is light and easily tilled, and is especially adapted to the growing of small fruits. It is also favorable to the cultivation of the cereals. Shipping facilities by boat are afforded by Broad Creek on the north. The Delaware Division of the P.W. and B. Railroad, which runs north and south through the centre of the hundred, offers another outlet to market. The numerous roads afford safe and convenient routes for traveling through the various portions of the hundred.
The supposition that the land in Little Creek Hundred belonged to Maryland led to its settlement under warrants and patents granted by the proprietaries of that State.
"Coxe’s Discovery," a large tract now owned by W.W. Dashiell, J. Turpin Moore, Nathaniel Horsey and Thomas Bacon, was taken up at a very early date. The representatives of the early settlers are found in the assessment list of the taxables of this hundred for the year 1785, which is annexed. On it will be found the names of many whose descendant’s to-day constitutes the principal part of the inhabitants of the hundred.
